After a brief break from the market, I am back and ready to get my feet wet again. For the past few days, I have just been quietly scanning the markets, trying to regain my footing and synchronize my instinct. The general market action has been quite, although we can expect a pull-back in the next few sessions. This is a necessary step that will lead to the building of the right side of the base a platform from which the markets can possibly head higher from. Alternately, this could also end up just being an upward spike towards its absolute top, as we are also in an area where the markets have also faced resistance (such as back in May and August of 2011). Time will eventually tell. For now, there are tons of stocks making solid moves. One stock that I have been eyeing and may possibly buy is BVSN.

At this point we can either head higher or head back to the lows that were established back in October. I know it isn't earth-shattering info, but it is something to think about before piling on new positions. If you are out, stay out until a strong thrust breakout confirms the upward move. There will be plenty of new stocks breaking out along with it that one can snatch up. In addition, an upward move will also allow the stocks that have been consolidating a chance to continue their march north (such as STMP, MELA, etc).

Huge Opportunites on the Horizon

I love a bear market. No, not because I go heavily short and pray for doom and gloom. I like corrections because of the fresh new opportunities that they create on the long side. And the more drawn out and treacherous, the better. The decline of 2008 create extraordinary setups in the spring of 2009. There was hardly a stock that did not increase at least 50%. In addition, negative market conditions make it even easier to spot strong stocks that have high strength. Back in 2008, we had an industry wide rally in the oil sector that led to double and even triple digit gains. It always pays to be optimistic, patient and disciplined. So, if your glass is still half full, stick around and patiently watch for great opportunities.

Well, at this point, it looks like we'll either be getting a double bottom or the start of a fresh new down trend. I could care less which one, just give me trend and I'll handle the rest. Despite the overall negativity, the markets have been bouncing back a bit (11 am Eastern time). In addition, there are several stocks staging decent looking breakouts (earnings fueled) such as ACFN, EVEP, EXPE, TRLG, ZOLL.

Time to Short?

Most likely, it's too early. Tops in the market are a long, tedious and dragged out process. While we may experience a short term retracement, the markets will most likely oscillate in both directions for the next few weeks. For DJIA, look for support at 12,500. If this doesn't hold, the 200-DMA may hold. If we receive a negative thrust downwards from the 200 DMA, then expect the DJIA to go as low as 11,500. For the NASDAQ, its do or die at this point. If it fails its current level, expect it to go to 2,700. If it thrusts down on high volume and dips below 2,700, then it's curtains for tech stocks until possible support is reached at the 200DMA (approx at 2,575).

Back after a Brief Break

Yes, it's been a while since I've posted. School and work has definitely tied up my time. There have been a few good trades here and there, but for the most part, the time that I have been away has been topsy turvy with the whole Libyan and Japanese issues. While the market has recovered, there haven't been that many worthwhile picks. Even worse, if you followed the market every day without flinching, they would have been even harder to locate. Sometimes it is beneficial to take a step back and look at the big picture.

The market has been pretty much laterally range bound for the past several sessions. Soon enough, we should either have a breakout to the upside or downside. The speculative and bio-tech/pharma stocks seem to be the stocks du jour, as they continue to make higher moves. One bio-pharma that I had highlighted several sessions ago (IPCI) has been performing quite well. Alas, I had been reluctant in taking a position and decided not too chase it. Instead, I sat on the sidelines and watched it soar since last week. Another strong bio-tech (GENE) has also been making new highs with an impressive 90%+ move today. This also popped on my radar but the low trading volume deterred me from taking a position. One positive hopeful for today is AERL. I have been patiently watching it believe that it is almost ready to be bought as a trade.

I am surprsied as to how much strength the market has been exhibiting. Even though the VIX is at a reflex level (ready to rebound*), the DJIA continues to push slightly higher. I received the confirmation on them yesterday, but I was stranded (because of the snow) and was not able to access my charting software, so I was left in the dust. By the time I was able to see the charts, I was already way past AH trading hours. So, I am jumping in today. The charts and volume hint at huge gains, and who am I to disagree?

Strength Starting To Fade?

At this point in time, the opening bell's strength is starting to dissipate. It will be interesting to see if we can even close in the green. A strong close at this point would signal the start of a new leg in the rally. Most likely, we will be trading sideways for a bit before a clear direction becomes evident.
One indicator that may hinder a new rally is the VIX. It is holding onto support at its 200 day MA. Only a powerful catalyst would allow the VIX to be pushed below this support line. It would also take a great deal of institutional buying pressure to keep it under that level long enough for us to experience a rally.
