The Next Moverz and Shakerz

Hey folks,

Besides doing home work over my Thanksgiving break, I have also been doing lots of market and stock research. One thing that I did mention with many of my charts is that there are a ton of stocks shaping up nice cup with handle bases. If this is correct and the market continues to hold up well, any slightly positive news can lead to powerful breakouts in many stocks. What I will present to you is just a small sample of some of the stocks that I have found to be ready (or close being ready for a breakout).

NSTC

All NSTC has to do is hold onto that high 15 - low 16 support level. This area is the handle of its base. This level also serves as a resistance level (check the 2yr chart).

HINT - Small Construction Company with growing revenues. I like HINT because of their great 3rd quarter results as well as the fact that they have a wonderful cup with high handle chart pattern.

TAG - This is a great little (boring stock) that seems to have bottomed out. It is slowly starting to work at the foot of the right side of its base. Insiders have loaded up on it and hold quite a stake in it. I think this stock is a great buy just on speculation alone ( it can be a takeover target). This is one to buy and hold for a while. I have played this one a few months ago and plan on playing it again.

MRY - This stock is another old favorite that looks good enough to buy once more. I believe it has bottomed and makes a great buy at the current level. This one is good to hold for a longer time frame.

RKT - Rock-Tenn Co is a paper products company with a wonderful chart that promises even more higher moves in the near-term future. I've been watching this RKT and even owned some in my 'folio a few months ago, but alas, I got rid of it way too soon and missed the nice breakout. Still, I think it makes a good trade at the current level as this stock is not very well known by many people as of yet.

Black Friday Profit-Taking

Hey folks,

You really can't blame 'em. A lot of investors and traders are ringing the register after a string of profitable months. With Christmas shopping opening up in full swing, who can blame them? Everyone needs money and for those who primarily depend on the market for extra cash spending, selling some ones portfolio seems like the logical thing to do. Do I endorse it? It depends if you need to raise up the cash. Personally, I haven't found much to buy today so I decided to put some necessary sells through. What do I consider necessary? Any stock that has failed the 10 and 20 day MA is a nice necessary sell. If a stock is not breaking up or setting up nicely for a breakout, then it is worthless. Take CROX for instance. I sold everything in that today as the stock is ready to fail its 20 day MA. I don't need a has been like CROX in my portfolio. I like the stock a few days ago since it showed support, but all that support is gone and the situation has changed and therefore so has my mind.

So what do I like? I like RVBD, NYX, HMIN, GSL, OEH, KALU, INAP, IFF, GMKT, ATNI, JCG (recieving lots of love)

I also like APKT (again, but I will only rebuy if it passes its previous high), LNOP (if it closes at 16) and CVLT (has to clear 20)

Stuffed Like a Thanksgiving Day Turkey

Hey guys,

How was everyones Thanksgiving? Personally, I'm very worn out! I guess that's what happens when you have a dozen young nephews, nieces and cousins all climbing on you, tearing your home apart, dropping food everywhere and jumping on your bed like it's a trampoline. Yeah, I had my hands full! I also had my stomach full as well, with all the wonderful food that we cooked. My responsibility was cooking the shrimp, as we had 3 different shrimp dishes. I made the Shrimp Scampi, Coconut Shrimp (with special pineapple/apricot spiced sauce) and the spicy jalapeno and coconut shrimp. Besides that we had lasagna, pastitstio (type of Greek pasta with cream sauce), dolmades, turkey, lemon-herbed potatoes, artichokes with lima beans, roast beef, greek salad, calamari, baccalario (cod-fish), mashed potatoes, chicken parmagean (I spelled it wrong, didn't I?), spinach pie, cheese pie (tiropita) and lots more! Desert was a whole other event in itself with 4 different kinds of pies, cheesecakes, streudels, cupcakes, brownies, 4 different kinds of cookies,, chocolate cake, jello cake and other assorted Greek pastries. So yeah, I consumed like over 7000 calories in one day!

Stocks and Trade Ideas for The week of 11/20/06

Hey Guys,

I will post the new stock picks for the rest of this week tommorow morning (Tuesday). I have been quite busy and I haven't had a chance to keep up with the market, let alone the blog! I will see you tomm!

- Nick

Update on 11/21/06

The stocks that I am looking at currently are, NYX and HINT. I like both and I already have a position in NYX. Even though I am not long HINT (as of yet), I still think it makes a good trade. Also, NSTC is a good trade if it can stay above 16. Also, look for support on PLXT.

Also, it isa good time to take some profits on EFUT if you bought it at 34-35 (or even lower.) Also, NMX looks like it may have bottomed for the day, so if you want to initiate a position, now may be the best time to do so.

Traders Ready for NMX

As traders await the arrival of NMX, stocks open up sluggishly on negative housing construction.

I am going to be very busy from now until Thanksgiving, so do not expect a lot of postings or commentary from me. There is a ton of HW, projects, papers, and presentations to finish and ontop of that, I have to do food shopping and preparation for Turkey Day. All of this sounds daunting and it is, so just bear with me!

Update: at 10:04 Took a nibble of NMX at 136..... Damn, it actually already surpassed what I thought it would open up at!!!

Update: 11:27 Picked up some more earlier between 130-131. So far, I have a decent sized position. I wish I had sold my initial position of 136 at 150+, but I didn't and missed the opportunity to make a fast buck. Oh well.
I sold my AMAG position. I was in at 41 and sold at 54 (I regret not buying Options for this one!!). I also closed my CRM position at 42 yesterday. I was expecting a big earnings blowout, but instead, the stock was a dissapointment. I had a position between 36-38 (avg 37). I had also sold half of my RVBD position 2 days ago for a 100% + gain.

As far as losses are concerned, I usually don't have much losses to post only because I cut them loose very early. A stock can be down 4% and I will cut it out if the chart does not look optimal. So far, some of my losses include: UCTT -3.00%, LQDT -5.00%, BEZ -1.00%, ASR -2.00%, VDSI - 4.30%, AVCT - 1.30%

Sharks in the Water...

Hey folks,

Don't forget to slip on your life preserver when treading today's markets waters. Sharks are taking advantage of the early weakness and snatching up shares out of unsuspecting 'folios set on autopilot. Take advantage of B.S. downgrades (like the one on RX). From experience, downgrades are usually false and only done in order for the firm (that issued it) to snatch up cheap shares. You can argue with me about this all day, but from MY experiences, downgrades are a buying opportunity!

By the way, EFUT looks like it has support at the current level (high 34/low 35). I am not going to go for it ( I already made my share on it), but this may be a good time to grab a small position. I have to stress the word SMALL because this stock is very volatile and can easily still drop another 40%. Then again, it can go up again today or tomm...who knows??

Started my Options Trading...

Hey folks,

I just started trading options a few days ago. So far my performance has yielded mixed results. I realized that buying calls is only profitable when the market and the underlying stocks are not working against you. So far, I have opened options for PGNX, REGN, ALXN, AMR, VLCM and PLXT. Out of all of them, ALXN and REGN have performed the worst. With ALXN, I have until Dec '06 and with REGN, I have until Jan '07. I am a newbie at this so I do expect to make mistakes at first. I will keep you posted on how they do.

Stick and Move....

I sold my position in EFUT for a near double. I was lucky enough to grab some at 24 yesterday. Today's awesome run up was the perfect opportunity to sell it. I am glad I did so as the stock has closed below where I have sold it. Still, I wonder if I should have held it for a bit longer. It could very well pop up another 20%+ tommorow. Then again, maybe profit taking will knock it down for a little. Who knows. I will keep my eye out for more opportunities such as these.

Intentional B.S.

Hey guys,

Here is something to think about. Renaissance Capitals mutual fund IPOSX, is a fund that basically functions as a basket of recently debuted (aftermarket) IPO's. Despite the release of some stellar IPO's during the last few weeks, the fund had still been lagging behind. Then here comes EFUT, a stock that has more than doubled since it debuted. Funny thing is, IPOhome.com (by Renaissance Capital) never did mention EFUT. No one knew about EFUT. IPOhome has every IPO and happened to conviently forget to list EFUT. Funny thing is, IPOSX's price has gone up handsomely after EFUT. Looks like someone loaded up and forgot to tell everyone else. I wonder why....

Options Trading: So much Potential

Hey folks,

I just finished reading up on a book about trading options and I finally realized how much potential they have. I realized that there have been plenty of longs in which I could've used options with. Furthermore, it would have been less risky to use the option, rather than the stock! As hard as it is to be believe, it is true. I still haven't begun dabbling in them, but I will in the near term future. If you want to readup on options as well, I recommend Michael Sinceres' book titled Understanding Options. It is a quick and easy read. I like it because it approaches the topic and content at a beginners pace. Basic options strategies such as Selling Covered Calls, and Buying Call and Puts are explained in detail. If you are looking for more complex strategies, then skip this book. But if you are a beginner such as myself, this book is for you! Enjoy!

Quiet Friday Action...

Hey guys,

Just so you know, I trimmed off some of my NYX position. I was making a decent gain on the shares I bought in the 60 dollar range, so I took some profits. I would've held, but the fact that Cramer pumped it spooked me. That guy is trouble when it comes to recommending buys. I will be expecting a slight pull back and then I will wait till NYX forms a handle. After that I will buy more shares and wait for the breakout.

Post-Election Day Dump...

Hey folks,

I have to say, I was not impressed with the markets reaction to the Democrats win. I think it was pure horse sh!t, but what do I know? I do know this though: The market should snap back and continue to uptrend after it consolidates for a bit as the Dems get comfortable in their new black leather swivel chairs. Overall, my stock holdings finished positive thanks to RVBD, SAI, BARE, NYX, TTEC and SRSL. My futures account was obviously down due to the market drop.

As far as buying new stocks, I took it rather easy this week, adding only a few. SRSL, AMAG, and AVCT are among some of the new ones. Out of the three, SRSL has been performing the best, averaging in a 23% return for me so far. I have to say, the timing on it was impeccable. On the other hand, I am starting to dislike APKT even more now. The stock better start shaping up again, otherwise it is adios!

There are some new IPOS out (and coming out, but nothing really great). I do like KBW and THRM. I am really waiting for NMX (as is everyone else!). Oh and I also like CPRX as well. I will be picking some up tommorow. As far as other stocks are concerned, I like GMKT, ALXN, ACHN, and PEGA

Some other stocks that I like are: CBG, LVS, WMS, VMC, MTD, DLLR, TCK, RC, HXM, RPM, SXCI, SRVY, CALD

Some stocks that I do not like after today (didn't close at HOD, bearish flag, etc): CSCO, GROW, AXR, and FFIV.

Foreign Banks? Bring 'em on! I like: BCH, GGAL, BMA, HDB, IBN

Stock that I missed and now regret it: MWP

Some Stocks for Tommorow...

Hey guys,

For tommorow, check out AOB, WSTF, AXTI, ULTI, WMS, BMA, AG, RIV, ACP....I'll have some more longs a little later...

Oh course, keep the usual suspects on watch as well: OMTR, NYX, CROX, RVBD
And yes, I still like APKT for the long run. I think that the earnings drop was an overreaction and it definately looked like institutions took advantage of the drop. We'll see how it goes in the next few days. Regardless, I could care less cause I know there are other great opportunities.

Tame Market...

So far, nothing crazy to report on the market.

On individual stocks, APKT has fallen roughly 20% due to earnings. I think that the sell-off is way over done. I did get to sell some yesterday, but I am still hit with a loss with the shares that I bought at higher prices. It sucks I know. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see where it closes.

Pre-Election Market Bounce....

The Pre-Election market bounce has most of the bulls cheering, yet we do not know the results. Are we engaging in foolish optimistic thinking? What if the Dems take office: Are we guaranteed a better handle on the economy and our foreign policy (think of situation in Iraq, Iran, and N. Korea). Who knows. All I know is this, it never hurts to take a little off the table..

Keep adding to the Winners...Cut Off the Losers...

As simple as it sounds, it is the best course of action. Of course, this all depends on your view of the market, which is why stocks are all over the place-up: down, left, right, etc. Did we top out and are ready to drop, or are we simply consolidating for a little before the next run-up? All I know is the 3rd quarter earnings season usually is tough to swallow. Still, I actually do not think it's as bad as last year. At the moment, I am 100% long. That's because, that is what the charts are telling me. Sure, there have been several losers that I had to cut, but that's because they reported lackluster earnings. What about the dozens of other stocks that reported great earnings? You have to put a magnifying glass up to these stocks and recognize them, look at the results, look at the charts. If they are bullish and present a decent entry point, take it!

Looking at my portfolio, there are several stocks that I would like to keep adding to:
RVBD, ACHN, DRIV, HMIN, NYX, OMTR, CADX, IWOV

End of the Week Catharasis

Hey Folks,

It's the end of the week and you know what that means! It's time to get rid of the rotten apples and add to the real winners.

Some laggards that I sold so far today: HPOL (-13% loss)

I will also be adding to NYX again. I am just looking for it too break resistance at 80 first. If it can hang above 80, I will adding. Meanwhile, APKT is facing some profit taking. I am interested to see where it will close. I have also loaded up on some OMTR this morning as the stock's chart looks incredibly strong.

Omniture

NYSE

Snagged up some more at 80.01 Hopefully we can close up nice and strong despite the crappy action. I know the odds are against me, but I love taking chances.

I have been adding NYX to my portfolio since its been in the mid-to high 60's (averaged out at 68). I have also added at 71-74 range, and just added now at 80.

Other stocks that are holding up nice: LNN (good time to add), CNH (own some), IFF, AVT, HMIN (good time to add).

Update: 4:32pm
Despite the loss in HPOL and the drop in AKPT, I still managed to close positive thanks to OMTR, NYX, RVBD, SAI, EHTH, ACHN. I can only imagine how much better it would have been if the markets closed positive. Oh well, we're still above support.

Thursday Action...

Hey folks,

I have to say, today's action has been on the wild side with the market swinging around trying to stabalize itself above current support levels. The good news is, we did not close near the LOD. The bad news is, there are a ton of pessimists out there and they are selling every chance they get. Me, I'm just the little guy going with the flow. I am constantly cutting the losers loose and holding onto the winners. I am actually going to be adding to some of my positions tommorow if conditions prove to be favorable.

I will be looking to add to:
CROX, NHWK, ACHN, MICC, DRIV, EVST, HMIN, OMTR, TTEC, RVBD, CADX, EXLS and IWOV. Some of the names up there are new. They are trades that I made during the week and did not post about them. I have been very busy with school, so you will have to forgive me about not being able to keep everything up to date.

Also note that I have sold some APKT at the 19.20 range and picked up some more between 18.45-18.74. I am hoping that this was a good idea...we'll soon see.

Stocks that I am looking at to also buy tomm:
STSI, CNH, DJO (let it come down a bit), SQNM, ESPD, AQNT, WTS (i), ICLR, PHLY (i), ICTG, PX, LUX, ACLI, LTD (i), UAPH, SMG, AG, SYT, MOS, TNH, SQM (re-add? i), JAKK, MAT, GXYF, TAG, CM, BMO, BNS (good time to add these Canadian Bank stocks, as the Canadian Dollar is showing some nice strength), ATX, AVY, VCLK, CCO, FIA, MHP, PSO, MFC, ENB, BWP, HPGP, GSAT

Also: IOSP, CTEC, HMSY, RGR, RC, MCGC, FLML, UGP, IPAR, IFF, TNC, INXI, USM, TDS, CTL, LPHI, ENCO, ARC, ARRY, CALD, OME, XETA VNDA, WPZ, HTX PHI (i), NCOG (i), GPX (i), TBWC (i)
